Schuldig shows all the textbook traits of a sociopath. He is someone who is glib, manipulative and cunning. He has a grandiose sense of self and an inability to see other people as 'real.' He’s a pathological liar, shows a lack of remorse, shame or guilt. Schuldig has shallow emotions, a need for stimulation, and displays callousness and a lack of empathy. He is impulsive. And last but definitely not least - has criminal or entrepreneurial versatility. Schuldig has an aptitude for indiscriminate violence, and will employ it against anyone, be they man, woman or child. The essential wrongness of this doesn't even ping off his moral radar - it's been turned off for years. Violence against himself however, he highly resents, showing a clear line drawn between himself and others. There doesn’t seem to be any one driving goal in life except that the world is there to entertain him; people, sheep to be played with. Unfortunately for the flock, Schuldig's idea of 'fun' tends to be rather hardwearing, if not fatal. Schuldig has a dark and wicked sense of humor. He’s a trickster through and through and boredom makes him dangerous. Schuldig is cat-like in his games, preferring to engage in up-close and personal games with individuals. He lacks the ability to see people as anything more than toys for his amusement. He is wild and unrestrained, though does not act outwardly crazed or insane. In fact, he plays at getting along with others quite well and can, in fact, be very personable. Though he apes social norms, he doesn’t see them as internal restraints. Overall Schuldig is completely contrary in nature. He’s cruel but capable, wily, humorous, sadistic, attention demanding, curious, capricious, and intensely alive. He embodies the idea of schadenfreude, pleasure in the pain/suffering or others. Schuldig is impossible to ignore and rather like a beautiful but vicious cat, you either love him or hate him. |

Schuldig had a relatively normal life. As an only child of a travelling father and an ill mother, he had a great deal of leniency in his life. Perhaps it was ennui that caused the shift in his psyche from a normal though bored child into that of a teen with complete disregard for others. Even Schuldig couldn’t say when he stopped seeing people as people and more as things to be used and manipulated for his entertainment. Despite that, he managed to work well enough in society. He’s been able to hold down jobs, whether through skill, charm, threat or any combination of the three, who can say. Schuldig found that cleverness, charisma, and good looks can get a person most of what they want out of life. And what can’t be got with those, can be taken by force or coerced out of others. Growing up in south western Germany near the border of France, Schuldig achieved fluency in both his native German and in French. Later he acquired English fluency which proved helpful for his stint at Oxford. There he studied philosophy and modern languages and linguistics. After receiving his degree in both fields, he moved to the U.S. looking for work at a college, which is what brought him to Cross. |
| Appearance |
Schuldig is 5’9” and very thin. He tends to dress in nice clothes, though has a somewhat sloppy look to him and sticks with solid colors in his choices (usually in black or white to make his hair seem that much more noticeable). He’s almost always smiling and blue eyes usually tell of some sort of mischief being plotted. Oh, and for those who take note of it, he does, in fact, sport a platinum wedding band. |
